Thanks to all who came out on a very rainy morning on Saturday, April 27th!

Welcome to our website.

This is the official website for Melanoma Miles for Mike. This organziation was started in memory of Mike Revers, a young man who lost his battle with melanoma in March 2007. The goal of this organization is to educate our community about melanoma and being Sun Smart about our skin and health. We do that by visiting local schools and organizations and presenting on the dangers of melanoma. In addition to our local outreach, we host fundraisers throughout the year to help fund melanoma research.

Together, and in Mike's honor, we will find a cure for this deadly disease.

About Mike

Picture
Born and raised in Naperville, IL, Mike Revers’ life story ended too soon. Taking his first swim class at the age of 2, he loved being in or near the water. He swam competitively in high school for Waubonsie Valley in Naperville, and was also a life guard each summer.  He also swam for the University of Notre Dame his freshman year. These activities meant being in the sun for several hours during the day.

He graduated from Notre Dame in 2000, and married his college sweetheart (Washington, MO native, Beth Mayer) in 2003.  Just six months after his wedding, he noticed a large mole on his lower back.  He went to the dermatologist, and the mole was removed and biopsied. The results confirmed that Mike had Stage II nodular melanoma.  After several surgeries, and a year of Interferon shots, Mike and his wife moved on with living every day to the fullest, hoping for the best.  He enjoyed traveling, building a new home, spending time with family and friends, golfing and skiing.  In December of 2006, a routine CT scan showed an area of concern in his left lung. A biopsy confirmed that the melanoma was back.  He went on a clinical trial, as no drugs were approved to fight melanoma.  In February, he was admitted to the hospital, and died a month later on March 15, 2007, just shy of his 29th birthday.

Since Mike is no longer able to fight melanoma, his family and friends have taken up the cause with the Melanoma Miles for Mike organization.
